CHILDREN’s Illustration
Illustrating material for kid’s lit and picture books was a passion I found while at art school and has become one of my greatest artistic loves. With a minor in Creative Writing, I love the whimsey that children’s storytelling brings and creating those stories, either with words on the page or a wordless illustrated scene is one of my favorite parts of creating. This section of my portfolio showcases some of my favorite pieces I have created that fall under the Kids Lit umbrella with some character design and other fun illustrations.

the perfect pet
picture book illustration
In college I took a picture book illustration class and for the final completed a dummy book of and original idea for a children's picture book. My idea surrounded two siblings, Finn and Fern, who go on the hunt to find the best animal to be their perfect pet. I wrote out the entire book and laid out each page with a rough sketch and then went back and brought several spreads to completion using gouache to paint the majority of the scene and then digital line to go back in and emphasize some detail and add in the hand lettering.
Kids illustrated
Quick studies of kids in different states of play and outfits with photos taken from scrapbooks of me and my siblings and Pinterest. Completed in Procreate.
Storybook
Some stand alone illustrations that fit under the ‘kids’ lit’ umbrella and explore styles I would like to include in future projects.
